Use Placeholder Theme While Your Church or Ministry Website is in Development

If you are in the process of designing, or re-designing your church or ministry website you can use a placeholder theme until it is ready. This is especially helpful if you can’t have an old site running while the new one is in development. It’s also helpful if you’re launching a new site and want to build anticipation up to the new site going live.

WooThemes has a Placeholder Theme that is free that is great for that purpose. Couple that with the ability to use different themes on different pages and you can work on the new site while everyone else only sees the placeholder theme on the home page.

Innova Theme – A New Theme From Viva Themes

The team at Viva Themes has released a new theme that I think would work well for churches. It’s called Innova. It does a great job at supporting 4 levels of navigation so if your church has a ton of pages with a lot of structure and sub-menus this might be a good fit for you.

How to Use Thematic to Make an Upgrade Proof Theme

This post is by Eric Peters. Eric also blogs at castingyour.net. Contact us if you would like to write a post for wpforministry.com and share how you’re using WordPress for ministry.

I was working on a project for a client that was a custom theme for a CMS. I took the default theme, and modified it until I got it exactly how I wanted it. It worked great and looked nice. Until, a year later, a major update to the CMS broke my theme. I looked at the CMS in agony thinking that I will have to redo the theme. I thought there has to be a better way. I found a better way, it is called Thematic. Thematic is a theme framework for WordPress that makes theme creating easier, and more resistant to upgrade problems. With it I can now make upgrade proof themes, woohoo!

New Theme from ChurchThemer.com – Ezekiel

The team at ChurchThemer.com released their second theme a couple weeks ago. Moses was their first them and now they’ve released Ezekiel. There are some common things among the two with the overall look and feel being similar yet distinct. Here’s a screen shot of Ezekiel. What do you think? Anyone use it yet?

First Baptist Church Miami, AZ

First Baptist Church in Miami….Arizona, runs on WordPress. First Baptist is using the Moses Church Theme from Church Themer that I blogged about a couple weeks ago. It looks great and the sermon page is well done too.

Saving Grace Theme for Churches, Charities, Donations, Campaigns and More from WooThemes

WooThemes makes great themes and one I like is Saving Grace. I am in the process of customizing a theme for a church that is doing a campaign to raise funds for a building. I suggested Saving Grace to them because of how perfect it is for their situation and for any church or charity where giving is a huge focus of the site. The theme includes donation functionality through PayPal.

ArisTech Media has just released the Crossroads Premium Church Theme to the public. It’s a premium WordPress theme designed with churches in mind. Standard Newsfeed – A Minimalist Standard Theme Skin

Standard Newsfeed

Standard Theme is one of my favorite premium WordPress themes on the market, and one of the nice advantages is the child themes given away in the support forums each month. This month, it’s the Standard Newsfeed theme – ideal for writers and lovers of minimalism. Anybody can put out a whitened design, but it takes skill to balance all the elements and present content with a sweet typographical flare.

How do you get this theme?

  1. You’ve gotta buy Standard Theme
  2. Install it, but don’t activate it.
  3. Log into the Standard Theme support forums and download the Newsfeed child theme.
  4. Install it, and DO activate it.

Space Creative: A Truly Unique WordPress Theme

There are thousands of WordPress Themes available, and frankly, many look the same, especially in the magazine-style. But Space Creative, a new theme by @wizylabs, has broken the mold just a bit and produced a theme that could certainly be called magazine-style, but gives me the feeling of a truly creative and artistic magazine.

I can see some great potential in this theme for ministry applications, especially as a creative way to present a ministry blog or ezine. Here’s a screenshot…
